Who Is Elvis Smylie?

Elvis Smylie, born 23 April 2002, is an Australian professional golfer from Queensland competing on the European Tour and PGA Tour of Australasia. A left-handed player, he turned professional in February 2021 after a strong amateur career that included winning the 2019 Australian Boys' Amateur Championship, twice claiming the Keperra Bowl, and securing the 2020 Queensland Stroke Play Championship. Son of former professional tennis players Liz Smylie (four-time Grand Slam doubles winner) and Peter Smylie, he was named after Elvis Presley and has benefited from connections in Australian golf, including mentorship from Cameron Smith.

Smylie's breakout professional year came in 2024, highlighted by his first victory at the Bowra & O'Dea Nexus Advisernet WA Open (playoff win over Jak Carter) and a major triumph at the weather-shortened BMW Australian PGA Championship (co-sanctioned by the European Tour and PGA Tour of Australasia), where he finished at −14 to defeat Cameron Smith by two strokes. These wins also earned him the 2024–25 PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit. He qualified for the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon via Final Qualifying at Royal Cinque Ports, though he missed the cut there and at the 2025 Open, while tying for 72nd at the 2025 PGA Championship.

What Does Elvis Think of Joining the Aussie-based Ripper GC?

"Growing up in Australia, you understand what golf means back home – the history, the mateship, and the pride that comes with representing your country,” Smylie said at LIV Golf Week. “To join Ripper GC, led by my long-term mentor, Cam Smith, at a time when Australian golf is growing the way it is means a lot to me. I’m proud to be part of something that embodies where the game has been, and where it’s going next.”

Cam Smith's Thoughts on the Newest Ripper

"Signing Elvis is a huge moment, not just for Ripper GC, but for Australian golf,” offered Captain Cam Smith. “He represents the next wave of Australian talent coming through at a time when the sport is absolutely booming back home. Elvis has already shown he can win under pressure, compete against world-class fields, and perform on big stages.”

Elvis adds to LIV's growing stable of supreme young talent that includes Tom McKibbin, Josele Ballester, Caleb Surratt, and others set to make their names in the League.
