LIV Golf has announced a series of significant updates to its competition structure and format for the 2026 season, designed to reward consistent performance, strengthen the team model, and expand competitive pathways. The changes, informed by feedback from players, teams, and stakeholders, include a shift to 72-hole events, an expanded field of 57 players (including five Wild Card positions via International Series and LIV Golf Promotions), and a revised points system that distributes more total points while awarding them to all finishing positions with greater emphasis on top performers. The season-long individual standings will feature an expanded Lock Zone (Top 34 players), a reduced Open Zone (positions 35–46), and an increased Drop Zone for relegation (positions 47–57), creating clearer merit-based thresholds and heightened season-long tension.

To further elevate team golf, LIV Golf is doubling weekly team prize payouts from $5 million to $10 million, ensuring all 13 teams earn prize money each event based on finishing position, and introducing a new $2.3 million per-event pool to reward individual contributions within podium-finishing teams. These enhancements, combined with a total 2026 purse of $470 million across 14 events, underscore the League’s commitment to sustainable team franchises and comprehensive player incentives. The 2026 season kicks off February 4–7 under the lights at ROSHN Group LIV Golf Riyadh at Riyadh Golf Club, launching what promises to be the League’s most competitive and globally engaging campaign yet.
