As the wait begins for LIV Golf 2026, we take a look back to 2025 and ahead to next season by putting into focus the 24 golfers who escaped relegation but sit in the Open Zone. And then predict whether their current team will offer a contract or if another option is more likely for 2026.

In LIV Golf, the Open Zone is the section of the season-long individual standings for players ranked 25th through 48th. Players in this zone can remain in the league for the following season, but their current team is not obligated to offer them a new contract if their existing deal has expired. This means players in the Open Zone risk becoming free agents and can be signed by other teams or potentially lose their spot in the league if they are not re-signed.

Graciás España!

Without his Top 5 finish at LIV Golf Andalucia, Matt Jones would be looking to re-enter the league via Promotions or the International Series. Matt finished in a tie for fourth in Spain on the back of a stunning 6-under par, final round, Sunday.

While Jones picked up a couple (2.25) points in Mexico City and (1) Miami earlier in the year, it was those pivotal 18 closing holes in Spain that made all the difference. His signature 2025 finish garnered enough points alone (16) to finish in 43rd.

Which Skills Give Hope?

If Ripper GC returns the 45-year-old, we wonder which skills they are hoping will help Matt contribute to team success next season. As it looks, there isn't much to bank on from his 2025 campaign.

Jonesy was 51st in Fairway %, 49th in Greens in Regulation %, and 45th in Birdies through his 13 events this year. He is such a fixture for Ripper, but the numbers are screaming a story of decreasing opportunities to score.

The Missing Piece

Ripper GC is one of the league's proudest franchises and fan bases. If they decide to leave Matt Jones off the 2026, it would have to be for "The Missing Piece." That one, high-level golfer, in his prime, who could propel the Aussies to regular podium positions in '26.

Rumors circulate each winter about who the next Australian could be to make the jump. Jones' 2025 results only fuel those fires this year.
