As the wait begins for LIV Golf 2026, we take a look back to 2025 and ahead to next season by putting into focus the 24 golfers who escaped relegation but sit in the Open Zone. And then predict whether their current team will offer a contract or if another option is more likely for 2026.

In LIV Golf, the Open Zone is the section of the season-long individual standings for players ranked 25th through 48th. Players in this zone can remain in the league for the following season, but their current team is not obligated to offer them a new contract if their existing deal has expired. This means players in the Open Zone risk becoming free agents and can be signed by other teams or potentially lose their spot in the league if they are not re-signed.

Runner-Up Theme Continues

LIV Golf Dallas housed Louis Oosthuizen's third runner-up finish over the previous two seasons. The Stinger GC captain came ever so close to capturing his first League victory. Louis is no stranger to finishing second. After being crowned the Champion Golfer of the Year in 2010 by winning The Open, Oosthuizen went on to finish 2nd in each of the other three Major Championships in a seven-year window.

But, Oos Still Got It

The stats show consistency is key for the South African legend. He finished 3rd in Fairway Hit %, t19 in Greens in Regulation %, and 13th in Scrambling in 2025. While lacking in Driving Distance (46th), those other pieces helped boost Louis into the points in five of seven events between March and June last year.

Surprisingly, the putter let the cap down. He was t38 in Putting Average, which gives some extra hope that Oosthuizen can ascend to the top of the podium in 2026, because we know his flatstick can carry him.

Monster Year for Stinger GC

Louis will be back to captain his men in a monster year for Stinger. GC. Reports suggest a rebrand is coming, with a new franchise name and logo. They will play hosts to LIV Golf South Africa, with attendance possibly breaking records. All in all, this is the biggest year for Oosthuizen, his teammates, and maybe the entire landscape of golf in South Africa. Thankfully, they have a leader in Louis who will handle it all with grace.
