Dean Burmester delivered another electric 6-under 65 in Round 3 at LIV Golf South Africa, keeping the Southern Guards GC firmly in contention for the team title while describing an emotional, adrenaline-fueled day that left him shaking on the first tee. "I couldn't feel my hands, feet, legs. I couldn't feel a damn thing," Burmester said of the opening hole. "It's something you've dreamt of your whole life, and especially to be at home, I think it makes it better." The home favorite credited family support—his parents, wife Melissa, and children Jordan and Alex—as the foundation for his journey, tearing up when reflecting on their sacrifices and the nation's embrace. "Without her support... I wouldn't be able to do what I can do," he added, praising the crowd's unity on Human Rights Day as a powerful symbol of bringing South Africans together through sport.

Branden Grace matched the intensity with a 7-under 64, sitting two shots back of the individual lead and feeding off the partisan energy that has defined the week. "This is what we've dreamt of," Grace said. "We want to be in this position... tomorrow just hope I can do some of the same as today and yesterday, just give myself a chance and just keep on believing." Grace highlighted a standout second shot on the 4th that nearly produced an albatross, calling it one of the best shots of his life, and emphasized self-belief forged through career highs and lows. He remains gritty and focused, viewing the final round as a battle where the home support could prove decisive against Bryson DeChambeau and others.
Bryson DeChambeau maintained his solo lead at 21-under with a 7-under 64, striking the ball solidly and appreciating the drivable par-4s and risk-reward opportunities at Steyn City. "I like the driver holes. They're a lot of fun... able to hit it 350, 360 on some holes, and be able to hit your pitching wedge 190," he said. Playing alongside Grace, DeChambeau fed off the electric atmosphere while staying process-oriented: "I'm going to play the same way I've been playing all week... focus on myself." He acknowledged the massive support—merchandise sales, autographs, and chants—viewing it as validation of LIV's global mission, and expressed excitement for the final round's intensity: "Tomorrow is going to be a great day... Gracey's got a huge hometown support, and it's cool to feed off of that energy."
Jon Rahm delivered a strong performance as part of Legion XIII's 28-under team round, praising the South African fans as among the best he's experienced. "Very few crowds, very few fans are ever going to be better, in every sense of the word, than these fans this week," Rahm said. "The respect towards us, the respect towards the game, is something that you see in very few places." He noted the course's gettable nature at altitude requires relentless birdie-making, predicting low scores will continue unless conditions change dramatically. Rahm also reflected on the week's broader significance, hoping it inspires more events in underserved regions like Latin America.
The Southern Guards' collective surge—highlighted by all four players scoring well—has them atop the team leaderboard, fueled by pride and mutual support. Burmester lauded teammates' resilience, including Charl Schwartzel's warrior-like effort despite back pain, while Grace emphasized the group's family-like bond. "We're exactly where we need to be... exactly where we want to be," Grace said. The team dynamic, amplified by the home crowd, has elevated their play, with Burmester noting the shared drive: "Let's just go and effing win this thing... make this the greatest golf event South Africa has ever seen."
As the final round looms, the blend of individual battles and team aspirations sets up a dramatic Sunday. Burmester and Grace chase history on home soil, while DeChambeau aims for back-to-back wins amid the chaos. With massive crowds ready to roar, LIV Golf South Africa 2026 has already delivered unforgettable moments—goosebumps on the first tee, Lion's Den fireworks, and a nation united in celebration. Tomorrow promises more, with trophies, pride, and pure sporting theater on the line.
