Needing to birdie the 18th hole to secure his spot on the weekend at LIV Golf Promotions 2026, Anthony Kim delivered the goods, draining a putt to keep his hopes alive for a spot in the League. Twenty-one others will join him, including former Ripper GC member Matt Jones and former Legion XIII player Kieran Vincent.
Black Diamond Ranch, especially its diabolical 240-yard Par 3 17th hole, hosted 47 golfers from around the world in Round 2 of the Promotions event. Scores reset for the 29 players who advanced from Thursday and were joined by 18 who were exempt into Round 2 ahead of the event.
After Kim's round, he reflected on the day and his play down the stretch:
"Yeah. Today was a rough day. Didn't get off to a great start. But after I made bogey on 17, I knew I needed to make birdie on 18. Gave myself a chance and felt good over the putt, and fortunately it fell."
Canadian Richard T. Lee, who advanced from Thursday, continued his hot play on Friday, easily advancing to the final Rounds of the competition. He spoke about his play over the first two days:
"I played 6-under yesterday and 4-under today, and I think that's plenty good enough for this course. This course is pretty tough. If you leave it on the false front then you pretty much have no chance to make par. I think just having the same mindset and play safe and trying to make birdies."
It wasn't all good news for former LIVers, Andy Ogletree (formerly HyFlyers GC) missed his own chance to drain a birdie putt on 18, while Chase Koepka (Brooks' brother and former Smash GC) exited just shy of the cutline. The Promotions event continues Saturday with the remaining 22 golfers' scores reset, and 36 holes stand between them and a life-changing opportunity.
Only three will claim their golden tickets to the LIV Golf League as Wild Cards for the 2026 global golf season. The final 36 holes of the event are set up for high drama.
